Many at a conference held on March 16 said the branding of Hue traditional ao dai (Vietnamese traditional costume) should be promoted to develop it into a key tourism product of Hue.
Fashion designer Dang Thi Minh Hanh suggests building an ao dai town in Hue City to promote the product
Addressing the conference, Nguyen Van Phuc, deputy director of the provincial Department of Tourism, said that tourism was defined as a driving force of the province’s economic growth, so the city should take advantage of the famous ao dai to bolster tourism.
Fashion designer Dang Thi Minh Hanh suggested building an ao dai town in the city where tourists can order tailor-made or buy ready-to-wear ao dai.
The town would enable young people to come up with new ideas for making ao dai with a modern touch. Once the town is put into service, visitors would not hesitate to spend between VND10 million and VND20 million purchasing a traditional ao dai, said the designer.
Nguyen Lan Vy, a businessperson, said that Hue ao dai is not only a traditional costume, but also a beauty symbol and a special tourism product in Hue. The city could organize ao dai performances, which are expected to attract many visitors.
The conference was organized by the Department of Science and Technology of Thua Thien-Hue Province, in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam.
