Speaking at a meeting on Covid-19 infection prevention and control on November 11, Hanoi Vice Chairman Ngo Van Quy ordered the competent forces to intensify the enforcement of wearing face masks in public, mainly at the five places.

The competent forces must be sent to those places to closely inspect compliance with the regulation, Quy said, adding that face masks should also be sold at the entrance of these places.

Over the past few months, there has been a positive change in the wearing of face masks, but the move has yet to meet the city’s requirements, he said.

As winter is coming and with Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, having the potential to spread more easily, the authorities and residents should not be inattentive and negligent, the local media reported, citing Quy.

The municipal government also assigned the competent agencies to continue asking people to wear face masks in public and closely monitor quarantine centers and illegal entry.

Five taskforce groups will conduct a check on compliance with the regulation on wearing face masks next week, Quy said.

Nguyen Khac Hien, director of the municipal Department of Health, said that most residents have not been wearing face masks in public places and they were not reminded to wear them either. The management boards of markets, stations and apartment buildings must take responsibility for checks on wearing face masks.

A representative of the Gia Lam District government said that at the markets in the district, a mere 10% of residents wore face masks.

Hanoi City has gone 85 consecutive days without the community transmission of Covid-19, while it has been 69 straight days since Vietnam reported the latest community-transmitted Covid-19 case. SGT
