L, born in 1997, had always been considered an obedient and good student of a well-known school in HCM City until one day he was found as a professional robber. The last mission conducted by L in June 2013 brought him into jail.

L’s parents only recently discovered that their son made acquaintance with a group of bad men via Facebook, who then set up a street gang. With the “comrades in arms” L had been living on robbery, though he sometimes still went to school.

Educators have many times warned against the youth’s “fashion” of making friends via Facebook. The members of the social network tend to become friends easily because they believe they have common habits, ability, and the indulgence in Facebook. However, in many cases, young girls have to pay heavy prices for the indulgence.

Nguyen Thi T, 17, from a well-off family, made acquaintance with a young man with the nickname “bach ma cong tu Saigon”  (Saigon’s player), and quickly fell in love with the honey mouthed man.

T got exceedingly astonished when the police rushed down to arrest the man, who was, in fact, a drug trafficker. The man himself is an addict and he is infected with HIV.

Ha Thi Ngoc Uyen, 26, was also a victim of a friend she made with via Facebook. Uyen had a date with Dang Huy Danh, born in 1990, the new friend at a café in district 10. After some minutes of talking, Danh borrowed Uyen’s mobile phone and ran away.

However, Uyen was lucky enough when discovering Danh later in the afternoon at a café on Ngo Quyen Street and she called the police.

The recent unsuccessful attempt to commit suicide of a female student just because of the offensive words to her on Facebook has stirred up the public.

Phan U N, a student of the Tran Phu High School in Da Nang City, after reading the words about her on “Bo mat that cua cac hot teen Da Thanh” (the actual faces of the hot teenage girls in Da Nang City), drank a drug to attempt to commit suicide, according to Cong Anh Thanh Pho HCM.

N’s parents luckily discovered the silly action of the girl, or N would have died of the comments on Facebook.

Giao duc Vietnam newspaper has published the letter from a mother in Da Nang City, whose daughter tried to commit suicide because of the comments with ill will on Facebook.

“I know the youth now likes to join a community on Facebook. My daughter was also a member of the community. However, I have prohibited her to access Facebook, because it almost killed my daughter,” the letter reads.

The girl drank antianxiety drugs after she got panicky with the comments she read on Facebook. The thing happened just some days before the national high school final exams. Though the girl escaped the death, she still attended the exams in fears.

According to the mother, “Bo mat that cua cac hot teen Da Thanh” has got over 17,000 likes. She has called for the support and the intervention of educators, young people and the police to stop the problems.
