VietNamNet Bridge – Many old trees in Hanoi’s streets are leaning and about to collapse. Their roots have burst and they can fall anytime. On May 13, two big trees fell and crushed a state car.
On May, two old trees on Le Van Huu Street and Ly Thuong Kiet streets
burst and crushed a car. Luckily, no one was injured.
A worker from the Hanoi Tree and Park Company explained that in recent years,
many streets have been dug up to bury telecom cables, electric wires and
to repave.
Because of these activities, tree roots were cut off resulted in
decayed stumps. “A shower can make the stumps waterlogged and fall,” the worker said.
Many trees have collapsed recently, causing people worried, especially
when the rainy season is coming.
In Nha Tho Street, a mother-of-pearl plant is leaning of around 40 degree.
Local people said that this tree is further leaning.
Some workers from the tree and park company have checked the tree but they have not chop it down yet.
Not very far from this plant, is an almond tree also leaning.
In Phan Huy Chu Street, this small flamboyant tree is also leaning 30-40 degrees.
In Le Van Huu Street, around 200 meters from the tree that collapsed on May 13,
a leaning tree has root diameter of up to 70-80 centimeters.
