VietNamNet Bridge – Domain names after the name of famous businessmen and singers are now offered for sales on many websites.

As of early November 2010, domains named after well-known businessmen were advertised for sale on many websites, these included Pham Nhat Vuong, the boss of Vincom group, Doan Nguyen Duc, Chairman of Hoang Anh Gia Lai group, Tran Dinh Long, the chair of Hoa Phat Group, Nguyen Quoc Cuong, the director of Quoc Cuong Gia Lai group and those after the names of famous singers like My Tam and Dam Vinh Hung

While the domain names phamnhatvuong.com and trandinhlong.com are offered for $100,000, nguyenquoccuong.com is only $1.

The domain named after singer Dam Vinh Hung is advertised for $2000. My Tam is worth $5000.

In 2008, domain named after famous singers and hot girls like singers Hong Nhung, Trong Tan or hot girl Thuy Top were advertised for sales from $1 to hundreds of US dollars.

Chair of Hoang Anh Gia Lai group Doan Nguyen Duc said he was not surprised. “I think there are many people who have the same name as mine. I don’t care about this because this is a virtual name,” Duc said.

Experts said that this is the start for a new service that “sells the names of famous people” in Vietnam.

The director of an IT firm in Hanoi said that speculation of domain names has appeared in Vietnam several years ago but buyers are few. “Trading domain names after the names of celebrities is not new in the world but it is new in Vietnam because e-commerce isn’t yet developed,” he said.

He said not many organizations are interested in launching their own websites so they would not pay several hundreds or thousands of US dollars to buy domain names after their names.

However, he said that this business will grow in the future when e-commerce really develops in Vietnam.
