VietNamNet Bridge – Nhu Duong, a phenomenon of the Swedish fashion industry, has returned to Vietnam to join the Elle Fashion Show 2012.

Duong made her Stockholm Fashion Week debut in 2009 after winning the first Mercedes-Benz Young Fashion Industry award the year before, and has steadily been garnering buzz in the Swedish fashion scene ever since.

Born in Saigon to a kung-fu master and a tailoress, Duong immigrated to Sweden at the age of seven. Her designs have a familiar Swedish minimalist aesthetic, but there are also definite hints of sportswear and street wear influences. What sets her apart however--is the way she constantly challenges the wearer to create something new for themselves with her designs.

She plays between commerciality and high fashion, mixing unusual fabrics with luxurious ones, and blurring the lines of casual wear and formalwear.

Returning to Vietnam this time, Nhu Duong will showcase her Coding collection, a 15-looks strong parade of colorful garments mixed with more subtle combinations. Wide and loose cargo trousers plus a few oversized white T-shirts set the tone in terms of the silhouette.

Thin nylon fabrics and latex tank tops added a sporty look without even being athletic. Having focused on neutral shades white and beige tones, Duong all of a sudden dropped a color bomb and pink parkas, yellow tunics and heels with neon details and a beautiful shimmering metallic dress all impressed. Showing off her full capacity, Duong then sent a cropped linen jacket and a black woven leather jacket down the catwalk.

Duong studied fashion in Florence and graduated from the famous design college of Beckmans in Stockholm in 2008. She participated in many fashion events in Europe. In 2010, she was granted the H&M scholarship as a new talent of the year and the Konstnarsnamnden Visual and Applied Arts scholarship.

Duong has become a designer of Nowhere, an online fashion brand for women. She lives and works in Stockholm and Berlin.
