Immediately after winning the 2022 Women's National Cup with the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club on August 21, striker Huynh Nhu flew to Portugal on August 22.
Huynh Nhu was planning to go to Portugal two years ago, but the Covid-19 pandemic and other reasons prevented Vietnam’s top striker to fulfill her dream.
The Portuguese team resumed the negotiation process in late July, and this time Huynh Nhu did not face any difficulty preventing her from playing football in Portugal.
The Tra Vinh-born footballer arrived in Portugal on August 22 and is set to undergo medical check-ups at a later date. If she passes her medical, her contract with the club will take effect and Nhu will become the first Vietnamese female player to play abroad.
Huynh Nhu is one of the most prominent players in Vietnamese women's football. She is most notable for winning the Golden Ball award on four occasions and has made several important contributions to the Vietnamese women's team, winning gold medals at the SEA Games in 2017, 2019, and 2022, along with the AFF Cup 2019 championship.
She is also the top scorer in the history of the Vietnamese women's football team with 59 goals on the national side.
The upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup marks the first time that the Vietnamese national women’s football team, including captain Huynh Nhu, has progressed to the finals of the prestigious international tournament.
