Yen won her third gold in the women’s standard event, after beating Bui Chau Y Nhi in the eighth round, ignoring the result of the last round later of the day.
The HCM City champion earlier won the blitz and rapid categories, which were put in the national tournament for the first time.
Her result was also a record: it was the first time a master pocketed all three titles at the same event.
In the men’s event, Lai Ly Huynh of Binh Duong topped the standard event, one round earlier than scheduled. Huynh won his title back, after losing last year to Trenh A Sang of HCM City. It was Huynh’s second gold, after his title in the rapid event.
HCM City topped the championship, with four golds. And Binh Duong bagged another two medals, to win second place.
