Hundreds of households are expected to gather in Ha Noi on June 25 to celebrate the 10th annual Viet Nam Family Day, said organisers.

Launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism under this year's theme Practical Action to Build Sustainable and Happy Families, the four-day festival had several aims: "to honour the traditional Vietnamese family; to promote exchanges of view between families for sustainable family development; to improve State management of family issues; and to increase awareness of relevant agencies and among people to build prosperous families of equality, progress and happiness", said festival organiser Nguyen Thi Hoa.

"The festival will contribute to social activities and promote the role of each family in the country's human development strategy for the 2011–20 period," said Hoa.

A number of activities will be featured, including a photo exhibition of previous family festivals, playgrounds for kids and the whole family, a health consultation and advice area, entertainment areas and food courts.

"Prominent among the activities will be a meeting and an exchange of views between four-generation families and others on how such large families are able to live sustainability under the same roof," said Hoa.

Other activities include a flower-arranging contest, a Mom and Kid's fashion contest and cooking contest, all to take place on the main stage, said Hoa.

She said celebrations of the day would be carried out in many other provinces and cities throughout the country.

Viet Nam Family Day was created with a decision by the Prime Minister on April 4, 2001 to honour traditional values, education and healthy lifestyles for all families.
