VietNamNet Bridge – A National Young Fine Arts Festival will be held to find works that reflect contemporary life, the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition announced yesterday, June 8.


Artists between 18-35 are invited to submit art in the following styles: installation, video, body, performing, sculpture, graphic and painting, department director Vi Kien Thanh said.


"In the recent time, Vietnamese fine arts has developed," Thanh said.


"Young artists have potential; they are creative, educated, eager to learn about contemporary art and willing to sacrifice for art.


"This is an occasion to find excellent artworks and to grant prizes to support promising artists."


The department is co-operating with Viet Nam Fine Arts, Thua Thien-Hue Literature and Arts and HCM City Fine Arts associations to organise the event.


Submissions must be with the organising board by August 25.


The festival will take place on November 10-20 at Viet Nam Culture and Arts Exhibition Centre, Hoa Lu Street, Ha Noi.


* Photography competition honours Vietnamese labourers



A ceremony was held in Hanoi on June 8 to launch a national photography competition to mark Vietnam Journalism Day (June 21).


Both Vietnamese and foreign people living and working in Vietnam are eligible to take part in the event called “The portrait of Vietnamese labourers”.


The event was organized by the Photo Journalists Club under the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.


The deadline for entries is July 31. An awards ceremony will be held on National Day (September 2).
