The overseas Vietnamese footballer is set to receive a Vietnamese passport and could be called up to play for the Vietnamese national team for their World Cup 2022 qualifiers which are scheduled to take place in early September.
Filip Nguyen was born in 1992 in Prague to a Vietnamese father and a Czech mother. The 26-year-old keeper currently plays for FC Slovan Liberec, one of the most successful teams in the Czech Republic. The side have won the Czech First League three times in addition to a Czech Cup win.
Filip Nguyen stands at 1.9 metres tall and is considered to be the club’s number one goalkeeper. He signed his current contract with Slovan Liberec in February last year which runs through until 2021. He played 13 matches for the side during the 2018-19 season.
As a youngster, the Czech-Vietnamese goalkeeper trained at the ABC Branik Prague Football Institute. He had previously played for AC Sparta Prague who have regularly featured in continental competitions such as the UEFA Champions League.
According to German football transfer site Transfermakt, Filip Nguyen is worth EUR750,000 (US$839,000). VOV
