VietNamNet Bridge – A Filipino couple was put on trial for fraud at the Hanoi People’s Court last week. Sheryl Baldicanas Rosaldo (born 1984) and Marcos Alberto Olito Quit (born 1978) joined another man to make spectacular tricks against foreign visitors in Vietnam.

Sheryl Baldicanas Rosaldo and Marcos Alberto Olito Quit lived together as husband and wife. They often traveled to Vietnam to cheat foreign visitors, mainly Japanese.
The couple was fluent in English and Japanese so they went to Hanoi to cheat foreign visitors to appropriate their assets. They once returned home to entice Benefrido Adriano Fernandez to Vietnam to join their gang.
Returning to Vietnam, they rented a house in Hanoi. Sheryl was assigned to wander in the Old Quarter to find the "prey."
Sheryl tried to get acquainted with foreign tourists and invited them to his inn to play cards. Initially, they let the prey win and then urged them to play with greater amounts of money and cheated them.
Benefrido directly played cards and used tricks to encourage the victims to bet all of their money, their belongings and credit cards.
If the "prey" did not have enough cash, they would be told to withdraw money from ATMs. Sheryl would offer to "escort" the victims to the nearest ATM, where he would try to steal the password.
After the victims lost all of the money, they would ask them to continue the game the next morning. They would tell them to put the cards and their assets into an aluminum box and sealed it. However, the box was exchanged fraudulently. This box would be given to the victim to take to his room. After having the credit card of the victim, they would withdraw money at ATMs.
The couple was arrested after they were denounced to the police by a Japanese tourist in late 2012.
Sheryl was sentenced to nine years in prison and Marcos 10 years in prison.
