Schubert, Mozart, Chopin and a bunch of killers, that’s life for 80-year-old piano teacher Traude Krueger. The old lady has been teaching music at the women’s prison forever but she has never met an inmate like Jenny: a killer who beats everyone around her to a pulp just to amuse herself. However, she used to be a great talent, a piano prodigy and beneath her fierce facade, she still is. With Traude’s help, she may have a chance of winning a prestigious piano contest but it is difficult to motivate those who want their lives to stand still. German movie ‘Four Minutes’ will be screened at 7.30 p.m. on August 23.
‘La Graine et Le Mulet’ tells the story of a 60-year-old father Beiji. His family has broken up and his dream of opening his own restaurant seems to be eluding him as he trudges away at his job at the marine port. His family, though, decide to get together to try to make Beiji’s dream come true. The French offering, directed by Abdellatif Kechiche, will be screened at 3 p.m. on August 6.
Claire’s Simon’s ‘Les Bureaux de Dieu’ sees a group of women struggling with their sexuality. They speak openly with female counselors who wonder if such a thing as ‘sexual freedom’ is truly possible in this tale of the women’s mundane yet fascinating daily lives. The film will be shown at 3 p.m. on August 13.
‘La Fille de Monaco’ concentrates on how a brilliant but neurotic attorney goes to Monaco to defend a famous criminal. However, instead of focusing on the case, he falls for a beautiful she-devil, who turns him into a complete wreck. His only hope is his zealous bodyguard can step in and put everything back in order. The movie will be on at 3 p.m. on August 20.
Vietnamese offering ‘The Little Heart’ will be shown at 3p.m. on August 27. The film tells how Mai, a 17-year-old girl, leaves her home province for the big city of Saigon with her goal of becoming a tailor. However, the move shows the dark side of city life as she returns home with HIV.
