Streets and parks in HCM City will be alive with festivities during the celebration of the country’s 44th Reunification Day (April 30) and Labour Day (May 1).

The 15-minute firework shows will begin at 9pm on April 30 in District 2’s Thủ Thiêm Tunnel, Đầm Sen Park in District 11, and Vinhomes Centre Park in Bình Thạnh District.

Costs for the fireworks will be funded by local organisations.

Streets and parks are expected to be alive with festivities during the show, according to the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Outdoor music and song programmes will be staged in the evening at cultural houses, including the HCM City Youth Cultural House, Cultural Women House and Cultural House for Children, on April 30 and May 1.

Music and song programmes will be aired live on Việt Nam Television (VTV) and HCM City Television (HTV). Veteran and young artists, many from the city’s Music Conservatory and professional traditional art troupes, will sing revolutionary songs in praise of the country and the Communist Party.

Film screenings will also be included. Films and documentaries on Vietnamese soldiers and people living during the French and American wars, directed by famous artists such as Phạm Khắc, Đặng Nhật Minh and Hồng Sến, will be screened in cinemas and on televisions.

Mobile film screenings will be organised at cultural houses in the rural districts of Củ Chi, Bình Chánh and Cần Giờ from April 29 to late May.

A series of painting and photo exhibitions will be displayed at local museums and the Reunification Palace. These events highlight the themes of the late President Hồ Chí Minh and historical events that occurred during the country’s revolutionary process.

A book fair on revolutionary literature is expected to open at the city’s Book Street on Nguyễn Văn Bình Street in District 1 on April 30 and May 1.

Đầm Sen, Suối Tiên and 23/9 parks will offer new games and art performances to serve hundreds of thousands of visitors and children, many visiting from southern provinces, on the holiday.— VNS
