Many travel firms said that the later-than-expected flooding season led to poor sales of tours to Dong Thap and An Giang. Some firms are even considering suspending sales of these tours.

Flooding season tours are a specialty tourism product, allowing visitors to enjoy scenic views that are only available during this period, according to Tran Thi Bao Thu, head of marketing and communications at Fiditour.

Although Fiditour started offering flooding season tours in early August last year, it has attracted few buyers this year. Floods for the season have reportedly been limited, discouraging tourists from purchasing tours. The company is currently running only two buses for this tour.

Thu added that her company may consider suspending this tour earlier than usual, by the middle of next month.

Other firms have reported similar problems, pointing out that tours of this kind can only be run for 4-6 weeks this year, rather than 10-12 weeks as in previous years.

Tran The Dung, deputy director of The He Tre Travel, said that this year’s flooding season tours to the Mekong Delta region will not begin until next month and may stop after a month.

“We hope that the waters will rise further so that we can take tourists to the breeding area of the birds at Tam Nong National Park. This place is very special and beautiful, but we need to wait as the waters are too shallow,” he said.

According to Dung, higher waters attract more tourists.
