In December 2022, the first container of "Dien" pomelos was shipped to the UK, said Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Dinh Cong Su.

The province has received orders for the pomelo from several EU countries and three orders from the U.S., he noted.

Pomelo is the seventh fresh Vietnamese fruit licensed to enter the U.S. market, following mangoes, longans, lychees, dragon fruit, rambutans, and star apples. Viet Nam boasts a total area of 105,400ha for pomelo cultivation, yielding an output of roughly 950,000 tons each year.

All Vietnamese fruits entering this market must obtain both VietGAP and GlobalGAP certifications.

According to U.S. regulations, fruit exports must meet strict U.S. standards relating to fruit cultivation areas and fruit packing facilities.

Along with these rules, products must also be irradiated at a stipulated factory under the supervision of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the US Department of Agriculture.

The U.S is Viet Nam's second largest fruits after China.

Viet Nam's export revenue of vegetables and rice in the first 10 months of this year reached a record of US$8.9 billion compared to US$6.9 billion of the whole year 2022./.VNA
