VietNamNet Bridge - After more than two weeks of construction, the first earthquake monitoring station at the Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant has been put into operation. This is the first station of Quang Nam province, besides the national seismic station network.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Institute of Geophysics said, this observation is able has to accurately record the earthquake magnitude of less than 2 Richter scale. Thus, experts can analyze earthquakes to warn people. Previously, the monitoring stations in Binh Dinh, Hue city are hundreds of kilometers far from Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant so they could not record tremors in Song Tranh 2.
Dr. Xuan Anh said that in late October, five earthquake monitoring stations around the Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant will be built, specifically in the communes of Tra Bui, Tra Doc (Bac Tra My district), Tra Mai (Nam Tra My district), Tien Hiep and Tien Ngoc (Tien Phuoc district).
The hydropower project management board No. 3 has recently completed the bidding package to install devices to the Song Tranh 2 dam to serve the monitoring of earthquakes.
Monitoring within the dam body has been transferred from manual to automatic mode. The complete package includes 680 electronic devices, priced at nearly $ 390,000.
Earlier, on October 18 - 19, the Institute of Geophysics disseminated knowledge about earthquakes and how to prevent and respond when an earthquake occurs to hundreds of officials and people in Quang Nam.
