On June 13, the leader of Tho Chau Commune People's Committee (Phu Quoc City) reported the sudden appearance of a red tide in the Mun Beach area, southwest of Tho Chau Island.
Initial reports indicate that local residents discovered the red tide phenomenon on the afternoon of June 12 and promptly notified local authorities.
This marks the first recorded instance of such an occurrence noted by both local authorities and residents.
Many individuals seized the opportunity to capture photographs and record video clips, preserving these rare images.
By June 13, the sea had begun to return to a lighter hue, and the affected area had also diminished.
Red tide, or algal bloom, signifies a rapid increase in the number of marine algae in the water. The blooming of algae can turn seawater red, though it can also exhibit shades of blue, gray, or a color resembling rice bran.
