Pham Duong Thuy Anh, a student at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, has emerged as the top scorer in the 2026-2027 entrance examination of the High School for the Gifted under Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, achieving a rare feat with perfect scores in both the specialized mathematics and non-specialized mathematics exams.

Speaking to VietNamNet, mathematician Tran Nam Dung, Vice Principal of the High School for the Gifted, said Thuy Anh secured the highest overall score in this year's admissions exam with a weighted total of 44.3 points.

According to Dung, the achievement is particularly remarkable because it has been many years since the examination recorded a candidate earning perfect scores in both mathematics papers. He added that Thuy Anh may be the first female valedictorian in the history of the school's Grade 10 entrance examination.

Although he did not directly teach Thuy Anh, Dung said he had met and taught her in several mathematics enrichment programs, including a summer school program for lower secondary students and a lecture series held earlier this year.

He also noted that Thuy Anh is a student of teacher Pham Tran Minh Triet, a graduate of the High School for the Gifted's 2004-2007 cohort and a former student in Dung's own homeroom class when Triet was in Grade 10.

To celebrate her achievement, Dung presented Thuy Anh with a book authored by Professor Titu Andreescu, a world-renowned mathematician known for his extensive contributions to mathematics education and Olympiad training.

“I wish you a truly wonderful and memorable high school journey ahead,” Dung wrote in his message to the new valedictorian.
