A patient infected with the lethal A/H5N1 virus is gradually recovering after nearly one week treatment.
 
Doctor Le Manh Hung, Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Tropical Disease Hospital said, the patient, Truong Phu Son was brought to hospital in a critical condition on February 24. Now the results of his blood test prove negative.

This is the first case of A/H5N1 infection has been treated successfully after two human deaths since early this year.

*** Hanoi’s first bird flu outbreak was detected at two farms in Dong Tien commune, Phuong Duc village, Phu Xuyen district.

Phung Van Tao, head of the Phu Xuyen district Veterinary Department, said all 2,600 ducks there have been culled. They were just 21-42 days old but not vaccinated.

The department has sent its staff to disinfect the areas to prevent the spread of the disease.
