On the afternoon of September 10, as part of the official state visit to Vietnam by the General Secretary and President of Laos, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, spouse of General Secretary and President To Lam, and Mrs. Naly Sisoulith, spouse of Laos’ General Secretary and President, Thongloun Sisoulith, visited the Birla Children’s Village in Hanoi.
The Birla Children’s Village, established in 1987, provides care and support for children without parental care or those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Over the past 37 years, the village has cared for nearly 550 children, ranging in age from two to 22 years old. Currently, the village cares for 85 children, divided into four family groups, with each family housing between 20 and 25 children.
Since its founding, more than 350 children have grown up and left the village, many returning to their families. Forty-six of these children have gone on to attend university, while others have received vocational training through the city’s programs.
When the children learned of the First Ladies’ visit, they were filled with excitement. First Ladies Ngo Phuong Ly and Naly Sisoulith spent time warmly interacting with the children, inquiring about their health, education, and offering words of encouragement.
The two First Ladies also brought special Mid-Autumn Festival gifts, including sweets, milk, and traditional toys like star-shaped lanterns and hand drums.
The children were overjoyed as they celebrated an early Mid-Autumn Festival with the First Ladies. The festivities included performances such as lantern parades with the Moon Lady and Uncle Cuội, traditional dances, and puppet shows, creating a joyful atmosphere.
It was a meaningful afternoon filled with love and support, as the First Ladies shared in the children’s joy and celebrated the early festival. The visit left a lasting impression, not only on the children but also on everyone involved, reinforcing the spirit of compassion and care.
