VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Transport has announced a jury - the first-ever of its kind in Vietnam - to conduct examinations that will lead to the choice of a new chief of the Vietnam Road Administration. The jury will include five Deputy Ministers and ten officials of the ministry’s advisory bodies.

The chief juryman is Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Hong Truong. Three other deputy ministers - Mr. Nguyen Van Can, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dong, Mr. Truong Tan Vien and Mr. Le Dinh Tho - are jury members. All are leaders of the Ministry’s advisory bodies and leading transport authorities.

There are four candidates for the post: Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Road Administration; Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen, Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Transport; Mr. Pham Hong Son, General Director of the Project Management Unit 2; and Mr. Pham Huu Son, General Director of the Transportation Design Consultancy Corporation.

According to the regulations, the candidate pool is limited to persons who are heads of departments and agencies under the aegis of the Ministry of Transport. Each must have at least 10 years of experience in the transport sector, and must be under 55 years of age for men and 50 years for women. They will undergo written examinations and have to defend their 10-year action plans in front of a jury.

The Ministry of Transport is the first state agency to select a top official through exams.

Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang has affirmed that the examinations will take place transparently and correspondents will be allowed to witness the exams, during which the candidates are to present their action programs.
