Five people died and five others were seriously injured on Tuesday when a fixed-route bus and a container truck collided on the highway.
The accident occurred at 1:36 am in Đồng Cầu Village, Tứ Quận Commune, Yên Sơn District, Tuyên Quang Province, involving a bus (plate number 23F-000.58) carrying passengers from Hà Giang to Tuyên Quang and a truck (15C-075.26) loaded with peanuts traveling from Hải Phòng to Hà Giang.
The stretch of highway, locals said, is a notorious accident and congestion hotspot.
The victims were travelers from Long An Province, who were returning to Nội Bài Airport from a trip to Đồng Văn Karst Plateau in Hà Giang.
Firefighting, rescue units, and other forces rushed to the scene to provide assistance. Local authorities are currently organizing traffic diversions and clearing the scene to prevent congestion.
The bus was taken to the Police Station of Yên Sơn for investigation.
Initial investigations suggest neither driver was intoxicated, and their vehicles met safety standards.
