1. Hanoi T&T reclaim top spot
Hanoi T&T are coming close to defending their V-League title after demolishing Quang Ninh Coal 6-4 to restore their lead atop the provisional V-League table. The team earned a total of 38 points, two points more than that of Becamex Binh Duong who lost their advantage in the hunt for the overall crown following a 3-3 draw with Dong Nai.
2. Record broken in terms of goal quantity
The 19th round of the 2014 V-League saw a glut of goals at six stadiums across the country. Forty-one goals were scored, resulting in an average of 6.8 goals per match, going further than the previous record of 34 goals in seven 26th-round clashes of the 2009 V-League.
3. Battle gets fiercer at bottom
The gap between bottom-placed teams is shrinking after the 19th round of play. Hung Vuong An Giang surprisingly overcame QNK Quang Nam 5-3 on Saturday to narrow the distance by just two points with Dong Tam Long An, who suffered 2-4 at the hands of SHB Da Nang. The 2-5 loss to Song Lam Nghe An also put Vicem Hai Phong at risk, as they ranked 10th of 12 teams with 16 points, just three points above 11th-placed Long An.
4. Timothy surges past Samson in goal scoring
Striker Timothy Anjembe of Hoang Anh Gia Lai has scored 18 times this year, once more than Samson Kayode of Hanoi T&T. Samson has been suspended for four matches following his 17th-round altercation with Vicem Hai Phong players at Lach Tray Stadium.
5. National team members impress
Six out of the 24 players who have just been selected by Japanese coach Toshiya Miura for the national football team, got their scoring shots in during last weekend’s matches, namely Nguyen Vu Phong, Vu Minh Tuan, Dinh Thanh Trung, Nguyen Hai Anh, Le Cong Vinh and Pham Thanh Luong. This is a good omen for the offensive line of the Vietnam men’s national football team.
