1. A storm of goals recorded
Thirty one goals were scored over six fifth-round matches; an average of 5.16 goals per game. This is the highest number of goals in one round recorded since the beginning of this year’s V-League season. The clash between Hoang Anh Gia Lai and QNK Quang Nam saw the most goals (8) with former champions Gia Lai trouncing newbie Quang Nam 5-3.
2. Thanh Hoa firmly on top
Thanh Hoa cemented their position atop the provisional standings with a narrow 2-1 victory over Hung Vuong An Giang, taking 13 points, four more than the runners-up, Hanoi T&T. Thanh Hoa will take on Hanoi T&T at home in the sixth round this weekend. This will be a good opportunity for Thanh Hoa to widen their advantage over such depressing opponents.
Thanh Hoa is currently the only team to remain unbeaten in the V-League 2014, with four wins and one draw.
3. Becamex Binh Duong snatch first win
Becamex Binh Duong have quenched their thirst for victory at V-League 2014 with a 4-1 win over neighbours Dong Nai on their home field. A double by Abass Dieng and two other goals from Suleiman and Trong Hoang helped Binh Duong escape from the bottom, jumping three places from 12th to ninth with four points.
4. Hanoi T&T: strong competition for the win
Following their loss to XM The Vissai Ninh Binh in the fourth round, Hanoi T&T came back strongly and demonstrated the power of defending V-League champions with a handy 5-2 victory over Vicem Hai Phong. The win has lifted the capital’s team to second place on the standings with nine points.
5. SHB Da Nang drop victory in last minutes
Despite taking a 2-0 lead for most of the game, SHB Da Nang lost their win in the last minutes of play against Quang Ninh Coal. Two consecutive goals scored by Iheruome Uche and Xuan Ngoc in the second-half injury time saved Quang Ninh from a home-soil loss and secured them a precious point.
