1. Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien (three gold medals)
Vien was the only female swimmer who won three gold medals, surpassing the famous swimmers in the region like Li Tao (two gold medals) and Junkrajang (Thailand, two gold medals).
Vien was also the athlete who won the highest number of medals for Vietnam at the 27th SEA Games, with three gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
She also broke two SEA Games records in the women’s 400m mixed and 200m backstroke categories.
2. Sprinter Vu Thi Huong (two gold medals)
The "Queen of Athletics" came back with two gold meals in the women’s 100m and 200m running.
Huong’s achievement in the women’s 200m race exceeded the gold medal of the 2013 Asian Championships by to 7% second. Huong also helped her team to win a silver medal in the women’s 4x100 m relay category. She was the best athlete of the track-and-field team this time.
3. Weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan (two SEA Games records)
Kim Tuan also broke the SEA Games records in the men’s snatch (129kg) and the men’s clean and jerk (285 kg). He also helped Vietnam defend the gold medal for the men’s 56kg category that Le Quoc Toan won at the previous SEA Games.
2013 was also the great year of Kim Tuan with three world bronze medals and three Asian silver medals.
4. Runner Nguyen Van Lai (two gold medals)
Lai's records in the men’s 5,000m and 10,000m were excellent because the records were much better than the gold medals of the previous SEA Games. More importantly, the two unexpected gold medals helped the track-and-field team realize its targets. In the previous SEA Games in Indonesia, Lai won only two bronze medals.
5. Shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh (three gold medals)
Of the four categories of competition at the SEA Games, Vinh won gold medals in three categories. In the remaining content, the host countries imposed the new rule, so Vinh lost a gold medal.
