VietNamNet Bridge – Five disabled Vietnamese swimmers will be heading to Paralympic London this summer after achieving A standard.

At the recent British International Disability Championships in Sheffield, Vo Thanh Tung attained an A standard in the men's 50m freestyle event with 35 seconds 39, the men's 100m freestyle (1: 21. 63), the men's 50m backstroke (45.81) and the men's 50m butterfly (40.11).

"Excellent conditions in the UK helped me develop my ability to a high degree," Tung said.

Nguyen Thanh Trung, attending an international tournament for the first time, overshot the A standard by five seconds in the men's 100m breaststroke with one minute and 54 seconds.

Du Thi Lan, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu and Nguyen Thi Sari also reached the A standard in the women's 100m breaststroke with 2:17.09, 2:17.17 and 2:20.50, respectively.

* Hanoian clubs excel in first games of championships

Two Hanoian clubs recorded their first wins in the first round of the National Women's Football Championships in HCM City on Tuesday.

In their match against HCM City, defending champions Ha Noi Trang An 1 opened the scoring in the second minute with a shot from Nguyen Thi Hoa. After such an explosive start, the game petered off and despite valiant efforts from the hosts, finished that way.

Also in action were Ha Noi Trang An 2, who came from behind to defeat Viet Nam Coal and Mineral 2-1.

These clubs, along with Phong Phu Ha Nam and Thai Nguyen, are playing the first stage of a round robin format that will last until April 27, before moving on to Ha Nam Province for the second stage from May 12-35.
