VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Records Book Center on September 12, made public the names of the five eldest people in Vietnam.


Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tru from HCM City’s Binh Chanh District, 118 years old.
Vietnam may have the world’s oldest living person, with the center saying it would contact the Guinness Book of World Records and provide information about her.

The eldest person and the eldest living woman in Vietnam is Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tru from HCM City’s Binh Chanh District. She is 118, three years older than the person listed as the world’s oldest by Guinness, Besse Cooper of the US.

Mrs. Tru is living with his youngest son, 69. She is still sound in mind. She takes two bowls of rice each meal, with vegetable from her family’s garden and natural fish caught from fields and rivers. She said these foods are good for health because they are not affected with chemicals.

Mrs. Tru said she has never taken any medicines. She can still sweep the floor, clean the house and cook rice to help her family.

About her secret of being long-lived, she said: “I have no secret. Let’s love and help people, not make enemies and if you can, let’s do charity. If you do so, your soul would be relaxed and you can live long.”

Mr. Huynh Van Lac, 110, in District 12, HCM City, has been listed as the oldest living man in Vietnam. Lac and his wife Nguyen Thi Lanh, who is 106, are the oldest couple in the country. They have lived together for 82 years.

The southern province of Long An has nine heroic living mothers who are over 100 years old. Heroic mothers are women whose children sacrificed for the country’s liberation.

The listing comes as part of a project by the center called S100, to identify centenarians living in Vietnam. Their experiences and tips to achieve a long life will be recorded for the benefit of younger generations.
