Continuous downpours over the past several days have inundated large portions of the province, particularly affecting highland communities. Flash floods have surged through numerous villages, isolating residents and disrupting transportation as landslides damage key roads and routes.
On August 27, Khong Hong Minh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Huu Lien Commune, confirmed that several areas in the commune had sustained significant flood damage. Since August 25, 15 households in Tan Lai village have been forced to evacuate their homes and relocate to temporary shelters. In Lang Que village, floodwaters have submerged a 50-meter section of the La Dang Bridge, with water levels rising to about 30 centimeters.
In Tan Lai village along Provincial Road 243, a 600-meter stretch is submerged, with the deepest section reaching two meters. Water levels there continue to rise. In Ba Leng village, another segment of the same provincial road is underwater for about 50 meters, with water depths around one meter.
Alarmingly, floodwaters have washed away a 20-meter section of the road leading to Dong Lam Ecotourism Area, making it completely impassable for vehicles. Additionally, three landslide sites have been recorded in the commune, with a combined length of 60 meters and an average width of three meters.
“Water from Dong Lam is overflowing and isolating six out of the commune’s 16 villages,” said Minh.
According to a report from the Huu Lien Commune People's Committee, around 120 hectares of rice paddies have been submerged, and approximately six hectares of forestry trees have been destroyed.
In response to the emergency, local authorities have distributed life jackets and rescue buoys while stationing personnel at flood-prone locations. Warning signs and barriers have been installed to prevent residents from entering hazardous areas.
Local accommodation providers have been advised to suspend guest services during the flood period due to the ongoing risks of landslides and high water.
Households located in zones vulnerable to landslides or deep flooding have received assistance in relocating their belongings, and evacuation efforts have been swiftly carried out to ensure resident safety.
