After 15 months of intensive investigation related to the Vietnam Airlines flight attendants caught transporting drugs, Ho Chi Minh City Police have prosecuted 318 cases, involving 961 defendants.

Ho Chi Minh City Police, in coordination with multiple units and provincial police forces, have thoroughly dismantled large-scale drug trafficking rings.

To date, police have prosecuted individuals for crimes including drug production, transportation, storage, sale, organizing illegal drug use, failure to report crimes, concealment of crimes, possession of counterfeit money, gambling, and robbery. Additionally, over 80 individuals have faced administrative actions for illegal drug storage and use.

During their investigations, police have seized 319 kg of various drugs, 12 guns, 67 bullets, and 3 grenades.

Authorities estimate that these criminal networks successfully sold drugs worth over 28,000 billion VND (nearly US$1.22 billion) on the market.

On March 16, 2023, Tan Son Nhat Airport Customs Branch, in collaboration with other units, inspected the luggage of four Vietnam Airlines flight attendants returning from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Tan Son Nhat Airport on flight VN10. They discovered 327 tubes of toothpaste and 17 bottles of mouthwash containing 11.4 kg of ecstasy and synthetic drugs, including 8,400 grams of gray tablets and 3,080 grams of white powder.

The case was transferred to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department for further investigation. The four flight attendants confessed that they had been asked by an unidentified person in France to transport the goods for over 10 million VND. They only checked a few tubes and, finding nothing unusual, agreed to transport them.

A week later, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department released the flight attendants and decided to prosecute the case of "illegal transportation of drugs." The flight attendants were found to have been exploited to transport the drugs unknowingly.

Ho Chi Minh City Police, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security and provincial police forces, expanded the investigation, uncovering drug trafficking networks that utilized flight attendants and Vietnamese students and residents in France to transport drugs via international airports.

The drug networks used domestic express delivery services to transport the drugs to Dong Nai, where they were repackaged and distributed to Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and other provinces for consumption.
