According to the Southern Region Hydrometeorological Station, the cold air continues to move to the south while northeast winds over the East Sea are fairly strong. Therefore, the flood-tide will rise fast in the coming days and will reach the peak on December 5-6.

Specifically, at 6pm today, December 4, the flood-tide will be 1.64m high. On December 5, the peak will reach 1.68m at 4pm. On December 6, the water level will remain above 1.6m before receding in the next days.

Three days ago, the flood-tide was forecast at 1.63m high only. With the new forecast, if flood-tide is combined with rain, many areas in the city are likely to be severely flooded.

In mid-October, flood-tide in HCM City established a historical landmark in 61 years when the tide at Phu An station was up to 1.68m, far exceeding forecasts by the local hydrometeorological station.

High tides made severe flooding in many roads in the city. A piece of embankments in Ward 28, Binh Thanh District was broken, causing widespread flooding in the suburbs.

To actively cope with the historical flood-tide, the city government has asked districts, especially District 12, Thu Duc, Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Cu Chi and Hoc Mon to inform locals of the news.
