The on-going floods in Central Vietnam have left 15 people dead, including 10 in Quang Nam province, and many areas submerged under water.
Although there is no more heavy rain, flood waters from the swollen rivers continue flowing into the lowlands. Some portions of the Highway N01A running through Quang Nam remain 0.5m under water, causing traffic jams.
Landsides caused by heavy rains in the past few days had put a number of households at risk and local authorities had to evacuate them out of the danger areas on November 7.
Despite such rescue efforts the mountainous villages of Tra Bui, Tra Giac, Tra Doc, Tra Ka and Tra Giap have been isolated from other parts of Quang Nam province.
Le Van Tuan, chief of the Bac Tra My district People’s Committee said the road to Nam Tra My has been seriously damaged but each village has received 5 tonnes of food from the district.
