VFF has had a new plan to recruit a coach for the national team. VFF Chair Nguyen Trong Hy said that the federation still favors Vietnamese candidates, but it has to change some conditions to be able to recruit a local coach.
All three candidates – Phan Thanh Hung of Hanoi T&T FC, Nguyen Huu Thang of Song Lam Nghe An and Le Huynh Duc of SHB Da nang - have refused to accept the post just because they will not be allowed to work for a FC during their free time.
Accordingly, VFF will have to allow the recruited coach to work for a football club during the time the national team is free. However, this change must be approved by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.
On May 10, VFF’s top officials met with representatives of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training to discuss the new plan and to persuade this agency to approve the new plan. However, the result of this meeting has not been disclosed yet.
However, this agency rejected the change. Deputy Chief Pham Van Tuan said: “We still ask VFF to perform two principles in selecting the national team’s coach: must be a local coach and he must work for the national team only.”
VFF is now under heavy pressure in recruiting a new coach for the national team because the AFF Cup 2012, the most important competition on the year is coming.
