VietNamNet Bridge – Star striker Le Cong Vinh asked Hanoi T&T club’s permission to quit playing football from the sixth round of V-League 2011, after four failed games.

 
In April 2010 Cong Vinh was seriously injured. After ten months of treatment, the striker resumed playing for Hanoi T&T in the third round of V-League 2011. Playing for the last ten minutes of the game, the star striker could not help his club avoid a 0-2 defeat against Da Nang club.

 

Coach Phan Thanh Hung replaced a player by Cong Vinh in the match against Thanh Hoa but the team was still defeated 0-1. Hanoi T&T was the loser again in the game against Hoang Anh Gia Lai (1-4).

 

In the first match at AFC Cup 2011 in Thailand, Hanoi T&T didn’t use Cong Vinh. The team was trounced 0-4.

 

After the team returned to Vietnam to prepare for the match against Dong Tam Long An in the sixth round of V-League, Cong Vinh asked the coach to withdraw from the list of players. He argued that he was not in the best shape. Coach Thanh Hung accepted Vinh’s request.

 

However, it is said that the real reason is different. Cong Vinh is the most expensive player of Hanoi T&T. However, the football star scored 14 goals at V-League 2009 and played only six matches at V-League 2010 before he was injured. He is considered his team’s bad luck. One year ago, when Hanoi T&T went to Nha Trang city to play against Khanh Hoa, Cong Vinh was asked to not attend the game. A long time after that, he didn’t dare to attend any Hanoi T&T’s games.

 

The team had a good start in the V-League 2011 with two winning games against Hoa Phat and ACB. But since Cong Vinh returned to the team, Hanoi T&T suffered four consecutive losing games. The star striker’s petition to temporarily stop playing is understood as a response to his pride being hurt.

 

Without Cong Vinh, the team played the best game so far at V-League 2011 and trounced Dong Tam Long An 4-1.

 

After this game, it is rumored that Cong Vinh and his close friend, fullback Hong Tien, may leave Hanoi T&T. However, neither Cong Vinh and Hanoi T&T verified the information.
