The Chinese foreman named A Wang caught a worker named Le Thi Hoa using super glue 502 to close an opening in the sole of a shoe while workers are requested to only use the company’s own glue to mend shoes--not 502 glue.
The foreman shouted at the worker and managed to pour the glue on Hoa’s hands. At that time, Le Thi Phuong, 25, the shift leader, approached. Wang turned on Phuong to vent his anger. He poured the glue on Phuong’s hands before pressing them together.
Phuong suffered serious pain, cried profusely, and then fainted. Some workers who witnessed the case also fainted. These workers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Phuong’s hands were separated but she needed further treatment.
Many workers went on strike that day to object to the foreman’s act, asking the company’s management to punish him.
Ha Xuan Thanh, Chair of the local Labor Federation, confirmed the case and asked the Taiwanese company to punish the foreman. This man has been suspended for investigation.
The district Labor Federation has also requested that the company to cover all expenses related to Phuong’s medical treatment and pay enough wages to all workers who had taken industrial action.
The local police are investigating the case.
