VietNamNet Bridge – A foreign man became an “unwilling traffic policeman” to ask drivers to go on the right way. However, some did not follow his instruction.

On July 2, VOV Traffic radio filmed a foreigner who stood behind a one-way signpost at Tran Binh Trong – Tran Nhan Tong intersection in Hanoi. Whenever seeing a motorcycle that ran on the wrong way, the man instructed the driver to go to the correct direction.

In a 4-minute clip, tens of motorcycles were stopped by the foreign man and reminded: “You are driving contrariwise. Please go back! Thank you!”

Many people turned round and ran on the right way, but some intentionally drove contrariwise and got angry with the foreign man.

According to VOV Traffic, this man is named Long, 27, who have been in Vietnam for five years. Long traveled on this road everyday and usually saw motorcycles driving contrariwise. He and his child were hit by a motorbike running contrariwise. He had reported the situation to relevant agencies but the situation did not improve. Long decided to become an unwilling traffic policeman.

Lieutenant colonel Vu Van Ngoai from the Hanoi Traffic Police Department said that some Vietnamese people are unaware of traffic rules. They usually drive contrariwise and cross the road when red lights are on. Ngoai praised the foreign man’s action.

The police officer said that there is no traffic police station at the Tran Binh Trong – Tran Nhan Tong intersection so many people intentionally broke the rules. He said that traffic police officers will strictly punish violators at this site.
