VietNamNet Bridge – On the afternoon of February 15, on the Hoai River in the ancient town of Hoi An, Quang Nam province, foreign visitors and local people participated in traditional boat racing to celebrate the New Year. Thousands of people stood on both sides of the river to cheer the racers.
Joining the competition were 9 teams of fishermen from different wards of Hoi An. Each team consisted of eight riders, including a foreign rider. |
The riders go through the river before the Bridge
Pagoda - the symbol of Hoi An. The track is almost 1 km long for each
round, from the foot of the An Hoi Bridge to the Hoai River Square.
Foreign riders came from many countries and they paid their own airfare
to Hoi An to participate in the race. |
According to locals, the
boat racing in Hoi An has had a long tradition. However, this is the
first time the boat racing had the presence of foreign tourists. |
