A range of decades-old trees in a forest managed by the two central provinces of Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue have been illegally logged.
Pa Nuoh Forest is situated in the area which belongs to both A Bung Commune in Quang Tri Province and Hong Thuy Commune of Thua Thien Hue Province.
Ho Van Cua, head of A Bung Commune’s police board, said that loggers even destroyed some huts built by the locality. He added that 47 local households have been assigned to manage the use the huts for the forest protection.
According to Hoang To Ni Soan, vice chairman of Hong Thuy Commune, it is essential to clearly define that which locality the forest belongs to for the better forest protection, instead of both Quang Tri and Thua-Thien Hue provinces like at present.
A large area of the forest was recently damaged with many of trees felled down. Lots of pieces of wood have still been left on the spot.
The sawdust has remained quite fresh, proving that the case occurred lately. |
