The forum and contest offer the participants the chance to gain a deeper understanding of the issues and challenges faced by ASEAN and East Asian communities, Assoc Prof Dr Huynh Thanh Dat, deputy head of the Viet Nam National University-HCM City (VNU-HCM), told the opening ceremony yesterday, June 26.

The event, from June 24 to 30, is being hosted by the VNU-HCM City.

Its objective is to promote the ASEAN spirit among young people through co-operation in academic and non-academic activities and to provide opportunities for students to acquire knowledge, values, and attitudes from their ASEAN counterparts.

The annual AUN Educational Forum and Young Speakers Contest is organised in turn by member universities.

It is the second time the forum and contest are engaging with participants from China, Japan, and SKorea.

Recruitment

The central steering committee on State recruitment of top new graduates and young scientists met yesterday under the chairmanship of the Minister of Home Affairs, Nguyen Thai Binh.

Members of the committee agreed that it was necessary to examine demand at State agencies and institutes for talented graduates and scientists from 15 key universities nationwide.

They also suggested that comprehensive reviews be made on policies and experiences related to the current recruitment process of new graduates to State agencies.

Efforts by private or foreign agencies, organisations and enterprises to recruit outstanding officers should be studied to help improve recruitment by the State.

This project is set to be submitted by June 2013 to the Party Central Committee's Politbureau and Secretariat.
