A delegation from the Russian Academy of Sciences had a working session with leaders of the central province of Quang Nam on the formation of a high technology institute in the locality.

The non-governmental institute is designed to perform science and technology-related tasks while expanding cooperation with other similar facilities both within and outside the country with the support of the Government and other social organisations.

Main objectives of the institute include researching, designing, manufacturing, experimenting and producing advanced and applicable technology products serving socio-economic development as well as security and defence.

The institute is also in charge of training hi-tech scientists to play a central role in boosting the country’s science and technology growth.

The facility will consist of centres for plasma and metallurgy, materials, optoelectronics and control, biology, medicine and environment, together with a technology university, an export processing zone, a specialist zone and a trade and service company.

The establishment of the institute is scheduled to span five years and investment for the project will be mobilised from 2016.

Currently, a number of Russian senior specialists are prepared to work part-time or full-time for the institute. The institute is also calling for overseas and foreign scientists from all around the world.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to locate the facility in Tam Thanh commune in Tam Ky city. The provincial leaders vowed to create favourable conditions for the construction and operation of the institute while proposing ministries and central agencies design support policies for investments in the project.
