VietNamNet Bridge – Accused of irresponsibility in causing losses worth hundreds of thousands of US dollars, Mr. Tran Trong Phuc, former general director of the Bao Viet Insurance Group, is being prosecuted.

On April 21, the police announced charges against three defendants, all former employees of the national insurance group:  Tran Trong Phuc, 53, former CEO, Ta Van Can, 52, former Chief Accountant and Tran Minh Thai, 39, former accountant.

The three are being prosecuted for “lacking responsibility causing serious consequences”.

By law, Bao Viet was not permitted to pay commissions to its agents. But according to an initial investigation, in 2009-2011, the Ben Tre branch of Bao Viet nevertheless did pay commissions to its agents, causing losses of billions of dong.

The investigative agency said that this wrongdoing took place over a long time, and can be attributed to the three defendants’ neglectfulness and irresponsibility.
