The investigative police unit under the Ministry of Public Security has decided to take action over corruption allegations at Binh Duong Production and Import Export Company.

These six defendants include Tran Thanh Liem, former Chairman of Binh Duong Province People’s Committee.

They are accused of violating regulations on managing and using State assets, causing losses and wastefulness at the Binh Duong Production and Import Export Company.

The prosecution is being supervised by the Central Steering Committee on Anti-​Corruption.

According to the investigation documents, police issued arrest orders for Tran Xuan Lam (former head of the Economic Section of Binh Duong Province People’s Committee), Vo Van Luong (former deputy chief of the People’s Committee Office), Nguyen Thanh Truc (former chief of the People’s Committee Office), Pham Van Canh (former Permanent Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee), Ngo Dung Phuong (head of the finance unit of Binh Duong Province’s Party Standing Committee) and Tran Thanh Liem.

The Investigation Police Unit, the Ministry of Public Security is continuing to thoroughly investigate the case and apply statutory measures to recover assets for the State.

On June 1, 2021, detectives also issued decisions to prosecute four defendants, Nguyen Dai Duong; Nguyen Quoc Hung (General Director of Au Lac Real Estate Joint Stock Company); Pham Huu Hien (former Deputy General Director of Dong Nam Consulting and Valuation Joint Stock Company); Ho Hoang Nam (Deputy General Director of Dong Nam Consulting and Valuation Joint Stock Company).

They are also accused of "violating regulations on managing and using State assets, causing losses and wastefulness" under Article 219 of the 2015 Penal Code.

Previously, the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee in Hanoi on decided disciplinary measures against the Standing Board of the Binh Duong provincial Party Committee in the 2015-2020 tenure, the Party delegation to the provincial People’s Committee in the 2016-2021 tenure and several former leaders of the province.

Tran Van Nam, in his capacity as member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, head of the provincial delegation of deputies to the 14th National Assembly, was responsible for violations and shortcomings committed by the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee in the 2015-2020 tenure.

The Secretariat also decided to dismiss Pham Van Canh, Tran Thanh Liem, Nguyen Thanh Truc and Tran Thanh Lam from all Party positions.
