VietNamNet Bridge – The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, Nguyen Phu Trong, has stated that fostering a friendly neighbourliness and comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership with China is Viet Nam's consistent guideline and also a top priority in its foreign policy.

While receiving Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Ha Noi yesterday, August 5, the Party leader expressed his hope that the two countries would do their best to fully implement agreements reached by their high-ranking leaders, and strengthen practical and effective co-operation in all areas.

The two countries should settle all existing problems satisfactorily through peaceful negotiations in accordance with international law and their signed relevant documents in order to make their friendship stable and healthy, for the benefit of the two peoples, as well as for peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world over.

For his part, Wang informed the host of the outcomes of the talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh, affirming the Chinese Party and Government attached importance to the relationship with Viet Nam.

He said his country wanted, together with Viet Nam, to strengthen co-operation in all fields, thus contributing to deepening the two countries' comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a meeting with the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister.

Dung said Viet Nam would do its utmost with the Chinese side to boost their comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership in a deeper, more practical and effective manner.

He spoke highly of the results of the talks between Wang and his Vietnamese counterpart, saying that Wang's visit will contribute to promoting the two countries' relations.

Pleased with the fine development of the two nations in all fields in the recent past, the Vietnamese leader stressed that Viet Nam and China were good neighbours with time-honoured friendship and common interests.

He suggested the two countries actively concretise agreements reached by their high-ranking leaders, boost friendship exchanges and comprehensive co-operation, and intensify co-operation in trade, economics and investment, as well as in fields that hold much potential, including infrastructure and transport.

Regarding the East Sea issue, Dung asked the two countries to solve all differences through peaceful negotiations and settle arising problems satisfactorily in a constructive spirit, not letting them affect the two countries' relations, as well as peace and stability in the sea.

He stressed the need for both sides to handle maritime disputes on the basis of the Viet Nam-China agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime issues and international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), towards the conclusion of a Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).

Host and guest also exchanged their deep views on the two countries' relations, including measures to speed up the implementation of agreements reached in the past, particularly the action programme to realise the Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership.

The Chinese FM affirmed that he would make every effort to foster bilateral co-operation, especially in economics, trade and investment.

Wang conveyed Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's invitation to Dung to attend the 10th China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning this September.
