According to police, the bodies of Tran Kim Long (born 1983), his wife Phan Thi Hoa (born 1995), their son Tran Van Truyen (born 2013) and Hoa’s sister Phan Thi Ha (born 2000) were found at around 9pm.

The bodies of Ha and Truyen were found in the couple's tent while Long and his wife were found dead 2km from the tent, far from residential areas.

As reported by local police, Hoa phoned her relative before being killed. Thanks to this phone call, investigators have identified the suspect – a man named Dang Van Hung (born 1989). Hung is an ethnic Dao who lives in the same village as the victims..

Luu Van Doan, Van Yen District Chairman, told reporters that the victims and the suspect’s family had land-related disputes. After the murder, Hung returned home and told his family about the massacre and fled into the jungle with his girlfriend.

Doan said Hung has a clean police record but according to local people he was an impudent man.

The police are looking for Hung.

This is the latest massacre in Vietnam in the past few months. Last month a four-member family in Nghe An and a six-member family in Binh Duong were murdered. All suspects have been arrested.
