President Truong Tan Sang granted the senior lieutenant general title to four lieutenant generals of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) at a ceremony in Hanoi on December 12.

The event was attended by Politburo member and Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang, and representatives from central agencies and armed forces.

The elevated senior lieutenant generals included Pham Xuan Hung, Deputy Chief of the VPA’s General Staff; Luong Cuong, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the VPA; Mai Quang Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the VPA; and Vo Tien Chung, Director of the National Defence Academy.

President Sang congratulated the promoted generals, affirming that they are elite officials of the Party, State and Army, and have made numerous outstanding achievements in the cause of national construction and defence.

The state president asked the senior military officials to continue training to improve leadership competency and proactively consult the Party, State, Central Military Commission and Defence Ministry with appropriate solutions to build a strong army.

On behalf of the elevated senior lieutenant generals, Director of the National Defence Academy Vo Tien Trung expressed his gratitude for the Party and State leaders’ trust and concern, pledging to make further efforts to promote the glorious traditions of the heroic VPA and fulfill all assigned tasks, contributing further to the Party and VPA’s revolutionary cause.
