
The accident was reported at 8.30am at a coal mine of a private company named Sinh Phat Loc. Before the accident occurred, four workers were assigned to get down to the mine to take out a broken pumping machine for repair.
Teammates did not see them return so they got down to the mine to look for them and saw the four workers had fainted.
The workers were brought to hospital but they died on the way.
The four victims are Pham Van Hong, 28, Bui Van Thuc, 23, Bui Van Chung, 26 and Bui Van Quy, 23 from the northern province of Hoa Binh.
Doctors defined that these workers were dead of methane suffocation.
The local authorities have asked relevant agencies to investigate the case and tighten control of mining activities in the province.
The mining company gave each victim’s family VND30 million ($1,500) while the local government provided each family with an additional VND20 million ($1,000).
