VietNamNet Bridge – Four male workers of a private seafood processing company in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang died of asphyxia in a tank containing waste water in the evening of December 7.

That evening, worker Dao Hien Phuong, 45, of the Viet Nam ChiTin-HG Co., Ltd. In Tan Thanh commune, Chau Thanh A district cleaned a 20cu.m tank containing waste water discharged from shrimp head shells. Because the tank valve was clogged, Phuong climbed into the tank to check.
Since Phuong did not get out of the tank, his son - Dao Vu Khanh, 20, climbed into the tank to search for him and he did not get out, too.
Phuong’s brother – Dao Hien Ngoan and his niece – Dao Hien Duong entered the tank to save Phuong and Khanh but all of them fainted from lack of oxygen.
Other workers did not dare to enter the tank. They removed the tank lid and took the four victims to the Can Tho City Hospital.
However, Phuong died that night, his son died the next morning and his brother and niece passed away the next afternoon.
Mr. Ha Hung Phi, a manager of Vietnam ChiTin - HG Co., Ltd., which processes shrimp head shells, said that normally, workers clean the tank from outside.
The authorities said that the victims could die of suffocation.
The police are investigating the incident.
