On the morning of November 20, Hanoi’s market management force and police seized a truck carrying more than 200 chicken cages, weighing more than four tons at Quang Minh Ferry, Ba Vi District of Hanoi.

At the police office, the owner Ha Thi Phuc, a resident from Chuong My district, Hanoi, claimed to buy Chinese low-quality chickens from a man named Tien in Cao Bang province to sell to traders at the Ha Vi wholesale market in Hanoi. Phuc said this is the first trip and the price is only VND 50,000 ($2.5) per kilo.

Mr. Le Manh Hung, an official from the Hanoi market management force, said Chinese chicken smugglers use very complicated tricks to transport low-quality chickens from China into Vietnam.

Hung said they usually transport smuggled chickens through the Mong Cai border gate in Quang Ninh province to Ha Vi wholesale market in Hanoi. This time, the smuggled chickens were brought from Cao Bang to Hanoi.

In June and July, the Hanoi market management force seized more than 20 tons of low-quality chickens from China. The chickens were destroyed according to regulations.
