An Internet service provider (ISP) in Vietnam told VietNamNet that the repair plan for the S1H.1 branch of the AAE-1 undersea optical cable route was announced by international providers.

It is expected that by July 23, 2023, the fault on the S1H.1 branch to Hong Kong (China) of the AAE-1 cable line will be repaired.

Officially put into operation in July 2017, the AAE-1 undersea fiber optic cable improved connection quality towards Europe and the Middle East, and provided additional capacity to the connection to Hong Kong (China) and Singapore.

The undersea cable route had problems in late November 2022 on branches S1H.1 to Hong Kong (China) and S1H.3 to Singapore. While the error on the branch to Singapore was fixed on January 14, the fault on the branch to Hong Kong (China) will need more than four months to be fixed.

According to a representative of the Vietnam Internet Association, the time to repair submarine cable problems depends on the weather, and the fault type and cable location, which can last from a few weeks to several months.

Specifically, the fault on S6 branch of APG route will be fixed from March 22 to 27 while the fault on S9 branch to Singapore and Japan of this cable route will be fix from April 5 to 9.

Problems on AAG route which occurred in February and June 2022 will be repaired from now until April 15. The incident on IA route to Singapore will be fixed from April 5 to 13.

In 2022 and early 2023, all 5 international undersea fiber optic cable routes used by Vietnamese ISPs, including AAG, AAE-1, APG, IA and SMW3, encountered problems. This situation has affected the quality of Internet services in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has established a steering committee to deal with the incidents and develop a national plan on undersea optical cables.
