The silver medal went to Truong Van Quoc Dat, a 12th grader of the National High School for the Gifted in Thua Thien-Hue province.
Furthermore, the three bronze medals were awarded to Nguyen Phuc Lam, a 12th grader of Quang Trung High School for the Gifted in Binh Phuoc province, Vo Tien Thanh, a 12th grader from Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted in Phu Tho province, and Do Trong Phuoc Nguyen, a 11th grader of Ly Tu Trong High School for the Gifted in Can Tho city.
The IBO 2022 is being hosted by Armenia from July 10 to July 18, with the competition featuring the participation of 231 competitors from 63 countries and territories worldwide.
The contest is specifically held for high school students, with each country able send up to four participants.
Vietnam wins three golds at Int’l Physics Olympiad 2022
All five Vietnamese students have won medals, including three golds, at the recent International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2022 hosted by Switzerland, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.
The three gold medals were awarded to 10th grader Vo Hoang Hai, 12th grader Le Minh Hoang and 11th grader Vu Ngo Hoang Duong. They are all students of Hanoi University of Science (HUS)'s High School for Gifted Students under Hanoi-based Vietnam National University (VNU).
This is the first time Vietnam has sent a 10th grader to the competition, and he has bagged the gold medal.
The Vietnamese team also won a silver and a bronze at this year’s competition.
Overall, the team ranked fifth after China, Romania, the Republic of Korea and the United States.
The IPhO 2022 was virtually held from July 10 – 17, attracting the participation of 368 competitors from 75 countries and territories. It was the third consecutive year the contest has been held online.
